When we say the name Japan, we would typically associate them with their culture, cleanliness, hospitality, food and even safety.
Because of that, the country has quite a lot to live up for their name and it&rsquo;s quite rare to see them &ldquo;mess up&rdquo; such a practice.
Man Served A Banana As Vegan Meal On Japan Airline Flight
Recently, Kris Chairi flew in business class onboard Japan Airlines during his trip from Jakarta, Indonesia to Tokyo, Japan. During the seven-hour-long journey, the flight was set to serve two meals. One was a snack and light refreshments and then the second one was lunch.
As the plane had already been in the air for a while, the snacks had rolled out and Chairi was served a banana with a pair of chopsticks.

Initially, he thought that the banana was an appetiser and found it pretty underwhelming and thought that there will be more food coming after he finished it. To his shock, he found out that that banana was the entire meal service for his snack and light refreshments segment of his flight.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a bit insulting to be served a single banana while others are given a far more substantial and flavourful menu. It seems especially important given the growth in the number of vegans and vegetarians,&rdquo; he said.

For reference, the non-vegan passengers had been served a meal consisting of a Moroccan-style eggplant salad, cheese, orange salsa, seared tuna and a side of baguette. On Japan Airlines&rsquo; <a href="https://www.jal.co.jp/inter/service/menu/pdf/meal/cgk_nrt_720_c_m_202212_202302.pdf">website</a>, the &ldquo;vegetarian vegan meal&rdquo; is categorised under their special meal menus and showed that it would consist of a baguette, halal sorbet, a rice dish and a baguette.

Later for his second meal, he was served spaghetti but it was just as disappointing as the banana that was previously served. Chairi said that the spaghetti he received had barely been seasoned at all.
Was the flight worth it? As you&rsquo;re paying around RM8,000 for a business class flight, you would typically expect better service, especially when it&rsquo;s coming from Japan Airlines. So, to answer that question, it definitely wasn&rsquo;t worth it at all.
Japan Airlines Apologises For Poor Service

In a report by Insider, the airlines issued an apology for not being able to meet the expectations. They also confirmed that all special meals served on Chari&rsquo;s particular flight were bananas.
&ldquo;We will continue to respond to our menus in light of the growing interest and diverse needs of customers requesting special meals, including the valuable feedback from this customer,&rdquo; said the representative.

Another thing to note is that the Japanese people are not too familiar with practising veganism or vegetarianism as many of their meals consist of and heavily use meat and fish/ seafood. Even ramen broth which is widely enjoyed by many for its delicious and strong flavours uses ingredients containing meat.

This move signals a shift from administrative detention to a more stringent custodial arrangement due to the seriousness of the allegations against him.

The denial of bail and transfer to BJMP Muntinlupa suggest Philippine authorities are taking a tough stance, especially after rising public concern over foreign social media influencers allegedly abusing their platform to disrespect host countries.

Initially, some reports speculated he could be detained for up to three years, but legal analysts now estimate a potential sentence closer to 18 months &mdash; if found guilty. The BI reiterated that deportation cannot proceed until all legal matters are settled. Commissioner Viado made clear that hospitality must never be mistaken for tolerance of disrespect or illegal activity.
&ldquo;Foreign nationals are welcome in the Philippines&mdash;but they are expected to obey our laws and respect our communities. Those who choose otherwise must face the appropriate legal consequences,&rdquo; he said.
Until then, Zdorovetskiy remains behind bars in Muntinlupa with no bail, no release date, and a trial that could stretch on for months.

The tragic discovery of a 39-year-old schoolteacher&rsquo;s decomposed body in her Johor home has sparked widespread concern and prompted authorities to issue a public appeal for assistance in tracing her only known living relative. The woman, who had been absent from work since September last year, is believed to have died alone nearly a month prior to the discovery of her remains.
Alarming Smell Leads to Grim Discovery

On the evening of Thursday, 12 June, residents of Bandar Selesa Jaya in Skudai were alarmed by a strong foul smell emanating from a house in their neighbourhood. After days of tolerating the stench, one concerned neighbour finally lodged a police report at the Nusa Bestari Police Station at approximately 8:06pm.
Responding officers forced entry into the premises, where they were met with a harrowing scene: the lifeless, heavily decomposed body of a woman&mdash;later identified as Lo Kwan Fong, also known as Luo Qunfeng (transliteration)&mdash;was found inside the house.
According to Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan, the Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief, the victim is believed to have died about a month earlier. Early observations ruled out any signs of a struggle or forced entry.
No Foul Play Suspected, But Autopsy Inconclusive

A post-mortem examination was carried out at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) in Johor Bahru by forensic specialists. However, due to the advanced state of decomposition, the medical team was unable to determine the precise cause of death. The body had reportedly deteriorated to such an extent that internal indicators were no longer viable for a conclusive assessment.
&ldquo;The autopsy could not ascertain the cause of death. However, there were no signs of criminal activity, and we have classified this as a case of sudden death,&rdquo; said ACP Kumarasan.
This classification rules out foul play for now, though police have not entirely closed the file, pending any new leads or forensic insights.
Months of Absence and Increasing Isolation

Lo, a teacher at a school in Taman Tunku Aminah, had not reported for work since 24 September 2024. In February 2025, her colleagues paid her a visit at home. It was the last confirmed contact anyone had with her. Subsequent efforts to reach her, including further home visits and attempts to call, went unanswered. Neighbours also noted that they had not seen her in a long time, but it wasn&rsquo;t until the strong odour began to spread that authorities were contacted.
She led a quiet, solitary life. According to her colleagues, she was reserved and rarely spoke about her personal affairs. She had reportedly lost both parents before 2010, and it was believed she had no siblings. She never married and had no children.
The only relative she had ever mentioned was her maternal aunt, who had moved to Singapore many years ago. This aunt, now estimated to be around 74 years old, is presumed to be her only surviving family member. However, no direct contact information for the aunt is known, making the search more difficult.
Her colleagues, heartbroken by the manner in which she passed, have since appealed for public assistance in finding this relative so that Lo can be laid to rest by family, not strangers.
Funeral Plans On Hold As Search for Kin Continues

Lo&rsquo;s body remains at the morgue while police and hospital authorities wait for her next of kin to come forward. &ldquo;Although people have come forward to help with her final rites, we truly hope her relative can be found to give her the proper farewell she deserves,&rdquo; said one co-worker. &ldquo;No one should have to die and be buried alone, especially someone who contributed to shaping the lives of young students.&rdquo;
Police and Public Appeal for Information
Authorities are now actively tracing Lo&rsquo;s family and have issued a public call for anyone with information to assist. Those who may have known Lo&rsquo;s family background or her late mother&rsquo;s connections in Singapore are urged to come forward.

The incident unfolded near the popular Lot 10 shopping mall, where a group of Malaysian university students noticed a man behaving oddly as he trailed a woman wearing a skirt. He was holding a paper bag in an unnatural position&mdash;angled just beneath the woman's skirt&mdash;as they crossed the street. Inside the bag, his smartphone was facing upward, allegedly positioned to secretly film beneath her clothing.
Realising something was wrong, the group&mdash;including the woman&rsquo;s friends&mdash;immediately confronted him. One of them grabbed his hand and asked, &ldquo;Bro, what are you recording?&rdquo; as another began recording the confrontation. The man, who was wearing a face mask, attempted to flee but was stopped at a nearby traffic light and later tackled to the ground when he tried to escape again.
Students Take Action Before Police Arrive

As onlookers gathered, the suspect was pinned down and held in a headlock by one of the students to prevent him from fleeing again. A security guard eventually intervened and took control of the scene before the police arrived. While waiting, the group demanded the suspect unlock his phone.
Initially, no incriminating content was visible, prompting concerns that the man may have deleted evidence. However, one of the students realised that some Android devices can switch between multiple user accounts or operating environments. Upon switching systems, they made a chilling discovery.
Staggering Archive of Voyeuristic Material Uncovered

The phone reportedly contained approximately 500GB of illicit upskirt videos and images&mdash;a collection so vast that it shocked even the seasoned among the group. In a follow-up video and accompanying Facebook post, one woman who was at the scene claimed that the phone held thousands of such recordings. Many of the victims appeared to be unaware they were being filmed, and several were reportedly not wearing safety shorts, making the act even more invasive.
Additional material found on the device allegedly included records linked to online gambling platforms, prompting speculation that the suspect may be involved in other illegal activities.
Suspect Believed to Be a Cyberjaya Student
Further investigation by the group revealed that the man is believed to be a student at a university in Cyberjaya. This revelation has sparked concern that such predatory behaviour might be occurring undetected within academic environments.
Fearing that the man could evade serious consequences or return to campus under false pretences, the students decided to publicly share their experience and the video of the confrontation. &ldquo;We don&rsquo;t want this person to tell people he was arrested for gambling and just carry on as if nothing happened,&rdquo; said one of the students involved.
Motivated by Justice, Not Fame
The video quickly went viral, with many praising the students for their courage and initiative. However, the individuals behind the video were quick to clarify their motivations. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re not doing this for attention or praise. We just want to make sure he doesn&rsquo;t get away with it&mdash;and that women are warned,&rdquo; said the victim&rsquo;s friend in a statement.
The students stressed that sharing the video was about raising awareness, not showcasing heroism. They also warned other university students to stay vigilant, as there was evidence suggesting the suspect might not have acted alone.

Students Confront Suspected Voyeur In Bukit Bintang: 500GB Of Upskirt Videos Found

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have come under the spotlight once again following the circulation of a video featuring one of its officers allegedly engaging in inappropriate behaviour. The footage, lasting just over two minutes, shows a lower-ranking officer involved in a lewd conversation with a woman, during which he is heard inviting her either to his house or to a hotel. According to PDRM, the incident is believed to have taken place in the Ampang Jaya district of Selangor. In response, a disciplinary and criminal investigation has been launched against the officer.

Integrity Issues Plague PDRM Amid Officer Misconduct Scandal

The recent viral misconduct case is just the tip of the iceberg for the PDRM, as broader concerns about internal discipline and professionalism continue to mount. Between January and May 2025, 492 officers were subjected to disciplinary action, with 59 dismissed and 146 suspended, according to Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad, Director of PDRM&rsquo;s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS).
The most common offences were integrity-related violations (333 cases), followed by governance issues (45), drug offences (42), criminal acts (38), syariah breaches (19), and corruption (15). The figures were revealed during Azri&rsquo;s visit to the newly officiated Maran District Police Headquarters, which serves over 115,000 residents.
Public complaints about police misconduct also surged, with 2,637 reports filed in just five months&mdash;1,892 formal complaints and 745 public tips. In response, PDRM launched the Aduan JIPS PDRM app, offering a more transparent platform for the public to report wrongdoing.
End of a Career and a Call for Reform
Azri&rsquo;s remarks came as part of his final tour of duty, with his retirement scheduled for 26 June 2025, marking the end of a 37-year career in the police service. His departure comes at a pivotal moment, as PDRM faces mounting pressure to reform and rebuild trust with the public.
