It&rsquo;s a sad week for animal lovers at our beloved Zoo Negara as our well-loved fluffy pandas Yi Yi and Sheng Yi who are also known as VIPs (Very Important Pandas), have now left our country as they head back to China yesterday.
The cubs were initially slated to return to their homeland at the age of two but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, their stay was extended and efforts of sending the cubs back were postponed. These female cubs are the progeny of Xing Xing and Liang Liang, the giant pandas China loaned to Malaysia in 2014 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. Residing alongside their parents, the cubs found their home in our beloved Zoo Negara.

Their older sister, Nuan Nuan, born in August 2015, had already returned to China in 2017. In accordance with the stipulations of Chinese panda loan agreements, cubs born on foreign soil are repatriated to China upon reaching the age of two. China engages in this act of "panda diplomacy," loaning these animals to foreign countries as a symbol of goodwill.
During the farewell event at Zoo Negara on Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, Huang Tiong Sii, emphasized that the cubs' return will contribute to the conservation of Giant Pandas. This move will facilitate their interaction and breeding with other members of their species.
Leaving Behind A Bunch Of Memories
Ever since the birth of the panda cubs, they've become more than just a tourist attraction at Zoo Negara; they've become integral members of the family. Their playful antics and gentle roars have charmed both visitors and staff, creating endearing memories that lingered in the hearts of those who visited the zoo and connected through social media.
Regrettably, their time at Zoo Negara came to a close on August 29th. While their physical presence may have departed, their emotional impact remains deeply etched, leaving an unforgettable mark on the hearts of countless Malaysians.

Zoo Negara Recognised As Among Best Caretakers In The World
Zoo Negara has received recognition from the Chinese government for its exceptional care of giant pandas. Since 2014, the zoo's successful Giant Panda Conservation efforts, involving the panda couple Xing Xing and Liang Liang, have garnered acclaim. The recognition stems from the program's effectiveness in promoting the birth of panda cubs in a relatively short span.

Deputy President of Zoo Negara, Datuk Rosly@Rahmat Ahmat Lana, explained that this acknowledgement follows annual audits conducted by Chinese panda experts. These experts observe the handling, feeding, and care of the pandas during their visits. The comfort of Xing Xing and Liang Liang in Malaysia has contributed to the success, as compared to other countries where panda couples usually take six to eight years to reproduce.
Rosly highlighted that male and female pandas typically live solitary lives, even in the wild or captivity, due to their nature. They only meet for three days each year, during which mating is monitored. These encounters last around 10 to 15 minutes, with varying success.
To maintain the pandas' well-being, Zoo Negara has assigned a dedicated team of five staff members. This team ensures the pandas receive proper nutrition and health monitoring. A panda's daily diet includes 25kg of bamboo, 10kg of bamboo leaves, 6kg of bamboo shoots, 1kg of panda cake, and 500g of apples and pears. The balance of their diet is critical to their health, similar to humans.

In his statement, Fadhil invoked the legacy of Anwar Ibrahim himself &mdash; who, as a student leader in the 1970s, led similar acts of protest. He also added that the outrage from Anwar's loyalists &mdash; including youth groups such as ABIM and AMK &mdash; missed the point, as they were more concerned with optics and reverence than the actual issues being raised.
UMS: Burning Was &lsquo;Immature and Uncivilised&rsquo;

Coach Airways Reimagined: A Bold Fusion of Fashion, Flight and Retro-Futurism Lands In Melaka

Datin Vivy Sofinas Yusof and her husband, Datuk Fadzarudin Shah Anuar &mdash; co-founders of the once-celebrated fashion and e-commerce brands FashionValet and dUCk &mdash; are set to stand trial in 2026 for allegedly misappropriating RM8 million in investment funds. The funds, entrusted to their company by two government-linked investment giants &mdash; Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) &mdash; were meant to support and develop local entrepreneurship.
Instead, the high-profile couple is accused of transferring the RM8 million from FashionValet Sdn Bhd into a separate entity they also owned &mdash; 30 Maple Sdn Bhd &mdash; without obtaining approval from FashionValet&rsquo;s board of directors. The alleged financial misconduct is said to have taken place on 21 August 2018 at Public Bank&rsquo;s Bukit Damansara branch in Kuala Lumpur.
Trial Dates Set for 2026

After months of legal developments, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court has now fixed 15 days for the full trial next year. Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad confirmed the following dates:

<li>8&ndash;12 June 2026</li>
</ul>
The next case mention is scheduled for 27 October 2025, allowing the defence team more time to examine forensic reports and prepare their arguments. According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, the prosecution intends to call 26 witnesses to testify over the course of the trial.
Vivy and Fadzarudin, both aged 37, were not present during the recent case management hearing on 23 June 2025, as their legal counsel had secured an exemption from court attendance. The couple continues to be represented by lawyer M. Athimulan.
Pleading Not Guilty to CBT and Alternative Charge

The charges, first read in court on 5 December 2024, fall under Section 409 of the Penal Code, read in conjunction with Section 34, which pertains to criminal breach of trust (CBT) committed by a public servant or an individual in a position of trust. If found guilty, they face between two and 20 years&rsquo; imprisonment, whipping, and a fine.
Additionally, the couple faces an alternative charge under Section 403, also read with Section 34, for dishonestly misappropriating property belonging to the company. This charge carries a lighter penalty &mdash; a prison term ranging from six months to five years, and may also include caning and a fine upon conviction.
Both Vivy and Fadzarudin have pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Controversy Surrounding Internal Acquisition

The case has drawn significant public and media attention not only because of the accused&rsquo;s celebrity status, but also due to the complex financial transactions under scrutiny. In 2018, the same year Khazanah and PNB invested RM47 million into FashionValet, the company acquired 30 Maple Sdn Bhd &mdash; a firm wholly owned by Vivy and Fadzarudin &mdash; for a reported RM95 million.
The acquisition was made through the issuance of 851,686 new ordinary shares in FashionValet. According to filings with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), the internal valuation placed the value of the dUCk brand at RM68.8 million, with an additional RM21 million assigned as goodwill.
Although 30 Maple had posted profits of RM8.5 million in 2017 and RM7.7 million in 2018 &mdash; along with a RM10 million dividend payout &mdash; the timing and structure of the RM95 million acquisition deal sparked scepticism.
Critics argue that the founders effectively channelled public investment funds back into their personal company, raising ethical concerns over whether such internal transactions should have received greater scrutiny, especially given the involvement of taxpayer-linked capital.
From Digital Darlings to Legal Defendants

However, the collapse of FashionValet in 2023, after over a decade of operation, marked the beginning of a turning point for the couple&rsquo;s public image. The platform&rsquo;s sudden shutdown &mdash; despite years of funding and partnerships &mdash; led to renewed scrutiny over the company&rsquo;s financial management and use of public funds.
