For many Malaysians, whether you're a pet owner or not, there's a shared compassion for animals, particularly for stray animals struggling to survive on the streets.
Despite our best efforts to support these strays, especially cats, it can be a challenging task. Recently, Sime Darby Property and Majlis Bandaraya Diraja Klang (MBDK) launched an initiative to address this issue by creating &lsquo;Taman Kucing Klang,&rsquo; a dedicated space designed to care for stray cats.

On 18 August 2024, Taman Kucing Klang was officially inaugurated, with the promise of providing stray cats with medical care and meeting their basic needs. Visitors to the park also have the chance to adopt cats from this facility.
Although the concept of Taman Kucing is commendable, it appears that familiar issues have emerged, leading to growing concerns among netizens.
Park Allegedly Looked To Be Closed And Seemingly Abandoned
Recently, X user Edwin Seng (@pengwinseng) visited Taman Kucing Klang and shared photos highlighting the troubling conditions he observed on Merdeka Day (31 August 2024).
In his tweet, Edwin reported that many of the stray cats were confined in a compound without proper insulation on the roof, leaving the shelter uncomfortably hot. He also noted the lack of shade from trees or canopies, further contributing to the challenging environment for the cats.

The poor conditions at Taman Kucing Klang seem to have resulted in several sickly cats, with Edwin Seng reporting the distressing sight of six dead cats, including a kitten. He also noted issues with inadequate food access, dirty litter boxes, and scattered rubbish.
A video documenting the state of the cats at the park is available <a href="https://www.facebook.com/reel/1216535532727876">here</a>. Edwin observed that some cats appeared to climb to the top of the walls to escape the harsh conditions below and mentioned the presence of cats with collars, suggesting that some may have been abandoned.
The office and treatment room were housed in a container box, which Edwin found mostly empty. He criticized the lack of proper facilities, indicating that MBDK might not have been fully prepared to care for the cats. Throughout his visit, Edwin reported seeing no staff or caretakers present to oversee the animals.

Edwin also encountered a stray kitten that had managed to escape from the shelter. He described the kitten as being in poor condition and unable to walk on its own. After taking the kitten to the vet, it was discovered that the kitten suffered from neurological damage, likely caused by a viral infection.

After his visit, Edwin expressed his disappointment in a tweet thread, highlighting that despite the RM800K investment in building the park, the shelter still failed to provide adequate protection for the cats from Malaysia&rsquo;s essential elements&mdash;our hot and occasionally rainy weather.
Park Has Yet To Be Handed Over To MBDK &amp; They Denied On Neglecting The Cats
Meanwhile, X user Aaticatt (@aaticatt) reportedly reached out to an MBDK staff member for clarification.
The staff member explained that the park had not yet been officially handed over to the council. They noted that the cats currently at the park were reportedly rescued rather than strays. According to the staff, a caretaker is now overseeing the park and the cats.
Additionally, the staff member mentioned that improvements were ongoing. There are plans to install CCTV, add roofs and awnings, introduce air-conditioners, provide cat food storage, and supply sand for litter boxes, among other upgrades.

Following the viral spread of the story, MBDK responded with a social media post, denying any claims of abuse, neglect, or mistreatment at Taman Kucing Klang.

Klang Mayor Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan addressed the allegations, stating that her team took the concerns seriously. After conducting an inspection, she expressed satisfaction with the cleanliness and comfort of Taman Kucing Klang.
She noted that immediate improvements will be made by MBDK, with future assistance from Sime Darby to address the hot conditions faced by the cats in the evenings.
"I value the public's concern on this matter, but some of the claims circulating are inaccurate, especially those about the cats being hungry and abandoned. The reports of numerous cat deaths are also incorrect; only one cat has died since the park&rsquo;s operation, and it was placed outside by an unknown individual," she said.
Mayor Roslan also mentioned that MBDK plans to partner with volunteers interested in cat care, as the support for the cat park has been very encouraging since its launch.

Following the viral post, Edwin revisited the park on September 2nd and observed noticeable improvements in its condition. However, he noted the absence of the black cat he had previously spotted.
In the comments, netizens praised Edwin for his proactive approach to keeping the public informed. Many highlighted that without his initial complaints, the poor living conditions of the cats might have remained undisclosed.

Trump also referenced a recent violent incident in Boulder, Colorado &mdash; where an Egyptian national allegedly attacked a crowd with a petrol bomb &mdash; as a justification for tightening entry requirements. Notably, Egypt is not among the countries listed in the ban.
According to the White House, the countries subjected to full restrictions were determined to present a &ldquo;very high risk&rdquo; to US national security. The move, which was first initiated in February 2025, forms part of the state-owned energy giant&rsquo;s broader cost-cutting strategy to &ldquo;rightsize&rdquo; operations and build resilience amid an increasingly challenging environment for fossil fuel producers.

Announcing the decision at a media briefing on Thursday, 5 June, PETRONAS President and Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz confirmed that the workforce reduction will affect staff across all levels, including management. Those impacted will be notified in stages by the end of the year and throughout 2026.
Hiring and Promotions Frozen Until End-2026

"PETRONAS 2.0 will be run and organised differently, with revised work processes,&rdquo; he said, referring to the group&rsquo;s internal transformation initiative. &ldquo;We need to correct the way we work to remain commercially competitive, not just locally but globally.&rdquo;
The restructuring reflects the growing urgency for the company to adapt to tighter margins and smaller resource fields. Tengku Taufik noted that in the past, PETRONAS could enjoy profit-before-tax margins of up to 40% when oil extraction was more straightforward. Difficulties Meeting Dividend Targets and Revenue Pressures
Tengku Taufik acknowledged that PETRONAS is under increasing pressure to meet its dividend obligations to the government. In 2024, the company accounted for approximately 10% of Malaysia&rsquo;s national revenue through dividends and taxes. With narrowing margins and declining output from mature fields, he warned that sustaining these contributions under current market conditions will be &ldquo;challenging.&rdquo;

No Exit from Canada Despite Speculation

While PETRONAS continues to entertain commercial proposals, he emphasised that this is part of the company&rsquo;s regular business review and not indicative of any planned withdrawal.
Ongoing Discussions with Sarawak over State Gas Role

This declaration also recognised the Sarawak government&rsquo;s appointment of Petros as the state&rsquo;s official gas aggregator, effective 1 March 2025.
Tengku Taufik noted that PETRONAS remains open to continued negotiations to strengthen cooperation with Sarawak and to ensure energy needs are met across the region.
Restructuring for Long-Term Resilience
While the coming months will bring uncertainty and job losses for many within PETRONAS, the restructuring aims to better position Malaysia&rsquo;s national oil company for the future. Tengku Taufik emphasised that PETRONAS must become more efficient and commercially disciplined if it is to compete in a shifting global energy landscape marked by transition and volatility.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has suffered a legal setback after the High Court in Kuala Lumpur dismissed his bid to seek constitutional immunity from a civil lawsuit filed by his former research assistant. She said the questions failed to meet the required legal threshold under Section 84 of the Courts of Judicature Act 1964, stating they did not involve "genuine constitutional controversy" and were neither necessary nor relevant to the current proceedings.
&ldquo;There is no express constitutional or statutory immunity accorded to a sitting prime minister for private acts committed before assuming office,&rdquo; she said. She also emphasised that constitutional guarantees of equal protection under the law mean equal treatment, not exemption.
The court ordered Anwar to pay RM20,000 in costs to the plaintiff, Muhammad Yusoff Rawther. Anwar&rsquo;s legal team has since indicated plans to appeal the decision and request a stay of the upcoming trial.
The Lawsuit and Allegations

&ldquo;This matter concerns the integrity of our constitutional system and the need to ensure that high public office is protected from litigation that may be strategically timed, politically motivated, or institutionally disruptive,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I remain committed to the rule of law and will continue to discharge my responsibilities without distraction or compromise.&rdquo;

Malaysian police have confirmed that the decomposed body found at a construction site in Bangsar is that of Jordan Michael John Johnson-Doyle, a 25-year-old British software engineer who had been reported missing since 2 June.

The discovery was made during a search operation on 4 June, at a partially completed condominium along Lorong Maarof. The search was initiated after Johnson-Doyle&rsquo;s movements were traced to the area. Over 30 officers took part in combing the site, and at approximately 5pm, a body was found face-down in a partially submerged lift shaft at one of the still-under-construction blocks.

A post-mortem conducted at University Malaya Medical Centre revealed that the cause of death was a chest injury sustained from a fall from height.
&ldquo;There were no signs of foul play or criminal elements at the scene,&rdquo; said Rusdi. &ldquo;The case has been classified as a sudden death.&rdquo;
The body, which was discovered with most of its clothing removed, was recovered at around 9.30pm on the day of the search and taken for forensic examination.
Last Known Movements Before Disappearance

His last known contact was on the night of 27 May, when he was seen attending a quiz night at Healy Mac&rsquo;s Irish Bar in Bangsar. He had sent a photograph from the bar to a friend, but after that, his phone went silent and his social media activity abruptly stopped. Concerned family members, unable to reach him, reported his disappearance to the authorities.
Staff at the bar confirmed his attendance that evening, but were unable to provide further details about his departure or movements afterward.
Public Urged Not to Speculate
