It&rsquo;s September 20th, and you know what that means!
While it&rsquo;s indeed the day before the weekend, today also marks the launch of the highly anticipated iPhone 16 series. Malaysia is one of the first countries to receive the new phone, thanks to the opening of the Apple TRX Store.
Unsurprisingly, the launch attracted a significant crowd, with lines forming as early as 3 AM. Enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement, proclaiming the latest iPhone as the best smartphone on the market.

New iPhone 16 Already Spotted On The Resell Market
Although the launch of the iPhone 16 went smoothly, with some customers waiting only about 30 minutes to make their purchases, the new phone quickly surfaced on the resale market at exorbitant prices. Just 20 minutes after its release, numerous listings began popping up on e-commerce platforms and social media, with the device being resold for as much as RM7,200.

While browsing various market sites, Facebook Marketplace displayed inflated prices ranging from RM300 to RM400 above retail. In contrast, on platforms like Carousell, the iPhone 16 Pro 256GB was listed for RM5,890&mdash;over RM400 more than the official retail price. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB is being resold on Carousell for RM7,200, which is a whopping RM1,200 higher than its original price.
As per Apple Malaysia&rsquo;s website, the iPhone 16 Pro Max series is currently sold out, with deliveries expected in 3 to 4 weeks. Meanwhile, Lazada is offering a limited-time discount on the iPhone 16 Pro Max series, providing buyers with up to RM150 off the official price, offering a bit of relief amid the resale frenzy.

If you're in the market for a new iPhone 16 Pro, you can check online for its availability without having to resort to the resale market. The iPhone 16 Pro will be available for in-store pickup at the Apple Store TRX starting tomorrow, September 21.
However, it's important to note that the Desert Titanium colour for the 128GB variant and all colours of the 512GB variants are currently unavailable for pickup. Unfortunately, neither of the iPhone 16 Pro Max models can be picked up at the Apple Store TRX. You may have better luck finding one at authorized Apple resellers across Malaysia, such as Machines, Switch/Urban Republic, iTWorld, Senheng/senQ, Thunder, and various mobile telcos.
How Much Are The New iPhone 16 Prices In Malaysia?

On a positive note, the new iPhone 16 series is priced lower than the previous iPhone 15 models. However, if you were hoping for a significant drop in price, we have some disappointing news: it's still quite pricey.

Is The Upgrade Worth it?

Considering an upgrade to a new iPhone? If you're currently using an iPhone 13 or 14, it might be wise to wait, as these models still deliver impressive performance and camera capabilities. The enhancements in the iPhone 16 may not seem substantial if you're coming from a newer version.
Additionally, it's worth mentioning the upcoming iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence update, which will be compatible with the iPhone SE (2nd generation), iPhone XS/XR, and newer models. If your device can run iOS 17, it will also support iOS 18. However, users with an iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or the original iPhone SE will not have access to this update.
Apple Intelligence, featuring the company's AI-powered capabilities, will be released next month but will only be available on devices equipped with the A17 Pro chip or newer.
