For both working adults and students, it's common knowledge that when we fall ill, we&rsquo;re required to submit a medical certificate (MC) as proof from a medical professional that we&rsquo;re unfit for physical activities.
Typically, an MC allows employees to apply for leave and recover at home. However, in Malaysia, some individuals misuse this by submitting fake medical certificates, which can lead to serious consequences. For example, a saleswoman was fined RM700 for using a fraudulent MC at a shopping centre in Jalan Cheras.

In the video, Asraff explained how one day he began experiencing severe pain in his salivary glands, similar to mumps, which made him uncomfortable and unable to attend work. His employer insisted he seek medical treatment at a hospital, so he consulted a specialist and received medication.
However, when Asraff asked for a medical certificate (MC) to excuse him from work, the doctor appeared confused and disregarded his request. Hoping for better luck, he visited a pharmacy, but the staff there had the same reaction. "I showed them the prescription the doctor gave me and asked the pharmacist about the MC. He had no idea what I was talking about," Asraff explained.
Japan Doesn&rsquo;t Practice The MC Culture

The following day, when Asraff returned to work, he asked his boss about the proper procedure since he had missed the previous day due to illness. His employer simply told him that all he needed was to take a day off&mdash;no documentation was required since he was genuinely sick.
&ldquo;There is no MC culture in Japan. I remember when I was working near Shah Alam and had a stomach ache, I went to a clinic in the area," he recalled.
He also expressed shock at the experience he had at the clinic, where the doctor didn&rsquo;t even examine him and immediately asked how many days of MC he needed. "The 'selling of MC' culture in Malaysia is really &lsquo;kaw-kaw&rsquo;," Asraff remarked, still surprised at the doctor's question.
In closing, Asraff took the opportunity to remind others, especially those working in Malaysia, not to falsify or purchase medical certificates, as doing so could diminish one's blessings.
Netizens Also Share Their Experience Of Having Their Sick Leaves Unapproved 
Scrolling through the comments section, many netizens echoed similar sentiments, noting that people in Japan tend to be highly disciplined, with little to no instances of employees attempting to forge sick leave. One user shared a personal experience where their HR department denied their sick leave after they caught a cold during the Covid-19 pandemic. Just two days later, the entire office was infected, forcing the company to shut down for a week.
In contrast, some Malaysians were criticized for not being entirely honest when applying for sick leave. Many lamented that this lack of "honesty" was one of the key cultural differences between Malaysia and Japan. According to Dr Kartini Farah Abdul Rahim, one of the plaintiffs, several residents were awakened by the sound of gunshots. Upon investigating, they observed three council officers driving around in a pick-up truck. Shortly after, Kopi was found dead from gunshot wounds. Her death, initially revealed via a post on the &ldquo;My Forever Doggo&rdquo; Instagram account, prompted widespread condemnation and demands for accountability.

After years of speculation, teasing, and public demand, WhatsApp has officially launched a native app for the iPad. This long-awaited release marks a significant milestone for the Meta-owned platform, which, until now, has been conspicuously absent from the iPad&rsquo;s App Store despite being one of the world&rsquo;s most-used messaging services. These methods offered only a fraction of the full experience, lacking core features such as timely notifications, full media access, and the fluidity users have come to expect from native apps.
The pressure to develop an iPad app only intensified over the years, with user requests appearing daily on forums like Reddit and Twitter (now X). In 2022, WhatsApp head Will Cathcart publicly acknowledged the demand and expressed a strong interest in bringing the service to iPadOS. A beta version of the app surfaced in 2023, but no release followed&mdash;until now. Malaysia is once again celebrating a landmark moment in badminton history as national shuttlers Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani officially become the world's top-ranked men&rsquo;s doubles pair, according to the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on 27 May 2025. This milestone marks the first time a Malaysian men's doubles duo has ascended to the coveted No.1 position in nearly a decade.
A Return to the Summit After Almost a Decade
Goh and Nur, known affectionately by fans as FeiDin, now sit atop the global rankings with 91,090 points, surpassing Denmark&rsquo;s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, who dropped to second place after failing to defend their title at the recently concluded Malaysia Masters. The Danes were dethroned following their semi-final loss to fellow Malaysians Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.

Although Goh and Nur themselves bowed out in the quarter-finals of the same tournament after losing to another Malaysian pair, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, their consistent performances over the past year were enough to push them into the top spot. Their victory at the India Open in January 2025 was a pivotal moment, bolstering their climb after strong showings in 2024, which included titles at the Japan Open, China Open, and Arctic Open, as well as runner-up finishes at the BWF World Tour Finals and the Asian Championships.
This achievement makes Goh and Nur the first Malaysian men's doubles team to reach the world No.1 ranking since Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong in March 2016. They also join a legendary group of Malaysian shuttlers who once held the same honour, including the Sidek brothers (Razif and Jalani), Cheah Soon Kit-Yap Kim Hock, and Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.
Notably, this also marks the first time any Malaysian badminton player has reached world No.1 since singles icon Lee Chong Wei last held the spot in June 2017.
Staying on Top: The Challenge Ahead

While the pair have every reason to celebrate, former world No.1 Datuk Razif Sidek offered a word of caution. Speaking to local media, Razif praised the pair's success but reminded them that staying at the top is significantly harder than reaching it.
&ldquo;Congratulations to them &ndash; this is a fantastic achievement. But they must not get complacent. When you&rsquo;re number one, everyone is watching and targeting you. The pressure will be immense,&rdquo; he said.
Razif emphasised that without consistent performance and proper preparation, the pair risks losing their hard-earned position. &ldquo;Being on top must be motivation, not a destination. They must continue to train hard and think like champions if they are to remain at the peak,&rdquo; he added.
Spotlight on the Singapore Open

The Malaysians must reach at least the final to maintain their position. Should the Danish pair win the tournament and Goh-Nur exit early, the No.1 ranking could be lost as quickly as it was earned.
That said, the Danes have semi-final points from last year&rsquo;s Singapore Open to defend, while Goh and Nur could widen their lead by as much as 4,000 points if they reach the last four and Astrup-Rasmussen fall short in the quarters.
Rising Malaysian Forces in Men&rsquo;s Doubles
