For most working professionals, commuting means either driving through traffic or taking public transport. But for Racheal Kaur, an assistant manager in AirAsia&rsquo;s finance operations department, her daily journey to work involves something far less conventional&mdash;boarding a flight.
Five days a week, she flies from her home in Penang to her workplace in Kuala Lumpur in the early morning and returns in the evening. While such an arrangement might seem extreme, for Racheal, it is a necessary sacrifice that allows her to balance both her career and family life.
The Rigorous Daily Routine of a Super Commuter

Racheal&rsquo;s day starts at 4am when she wakes up and gets ready for work. By 5am, she is out the door, heading to the airport to catch her 5:55am flight. The journey from Penang International Airport to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Upon landing at KLIA Terminal 2, she takes a short seven-minute walk to her office, ensuring she clocks in by 7:45am.
Once her workday ends, Racheal heads back to the airport, boards her return flight, and typically arrives home by 7:30pm. However, during peak travel periods or festive seasons, delays can occur as commercial passengers are prioritised. Despite the challenges, she remains committed to this demanding routine.
Flying is More Cost-Effective Than Renting
Before adopting this unique commuting style, Racheal used to rent an apartment in Kuala Lumpur, staying there throughout the workweek and flying home only on weekends. While this arrangement was logistically easier, she found herself missing out on important moments in her children&rsquo;s lives.
&ldquo;With two children at home, aged 11 and 12, I felt the need to be around more often. I was missing out on their daily lives, their school activities, and even the little things like helping with homework. With this arrangement, I can be home every night to see them, support them, and be a more present mother,&rdquo; she shared in an interview with CNA Insider.

One might assume that flying daily would be an expensive luxury, but for Racheal, it is actually a more cost-effective option than living in Kuala Lumpur.
Thanks to her AirAsia staff discount, her round-trip flight costs only RM50 per day, adding up to approximately RM1,100 per month. In contrast, when she was renting in Kuala Lumpur, she was paying between RM1,400 and RM1,500 just for accommodation.
Beyond rent, her food expenses have also dropped significantly&mdash;from RM600 a month in Kuala Lumpur to just RM300 in Penang. Factoring in other expenses, she saves approximately RM700 per month with this unconventional commute.
&ldquo;This way, I&rsquo;m not only saving money, but I also get to be with my family every day,&rdquo; she explained.
The Challenges of a Frequent Flyer

While Racheal has found ways to make this lifestyle work, it is not without its difficulties. The unpredictability of air travel, especially during peak seasons or holidays, can sometimes be stressful.
&ldquo;During festive periods, there&rsquo;s always a little anxiety about whether I&rsquo;ll be able to get on my flight. Commercial guests take priority, which is understandable. But at the end of the day, I always manage to get home, so it&rsquo;s not a major problem,&rdquo; she said.
Another challenge is the sheer exhaustion of waking up at 4am every morning and dealing with long hours in transit. However, Racheal believes the rewards far outweigh the fatigue.
Why She Prefers Office Work Over Remote Work

Despite having a demanding commute, Racheal prefers working from the office rather than remotely from home. She believes that being physically present in the workplace allows her to be more productive and efficient in her role.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s much easier to get work done when you can communicate with colleagues face-to-face. There are fewer misunderstandings, and tasks are completed faster. My company has been very understanding and supportive, giving me the flexibility to maintain a work-life balance,&rdquo; she explained.
She also appreciates the clear separation between work and home life.
&ldquo;When I&rsquo;m in the office, I can focus 100% on work, and when I&rsquo;m home, I can focus 100% on my family. There&rsquo;s no overlap, and that&rsquo;s something I value.&rdquo;
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s Exhausting, But Worth It&rdquo;
Racheal acknowledges that her lifestyle is not for everyone. The early mornings, constant flights, and occasional uncertainties can be draining. However, she firmly believes that it is a sacrifice worth making.
&ldquo;It is exhausting to wake up at 4am every day, but the moment I step into my home and see my children, all that tiredness disappears. It&rsquo;s just wonderful,&rdquo; she said.
For now, she has no plans to change her routine.
&ldquo;As long as my children still need me around, I&rsquo;ll continue doing this. It&rsquo;s a small price to pay to be there for them every day.&rdquo;

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has once again escaped conviction in one of his many legal battles, after the High Court granted him a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) over RM27 million allegedly misappropriated from SRC International. However, the 70-year-old remains behind bars, serving a six-year sentence for a separate SRC-related conviction involving RM42 million.

&ldquo;The prolonged wait has become a long haul for the accused, denying him timely resolution,&rdquo; the judge said. He emphasised that criminal charges should not hang over an accused like &ldquo;the sword of Damocles.&rdquo;
A DNAA means Najib is released from the charges, but not acquitted&mdash;should fresh evidence emerge, the prosecution may reopen the case.
