A series of TikTok videos posted by Chinese original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) has taken social media by storm. One of the most viral accounts, @senbags, run by a man claiming to be a supplier to several top-tier fashion houses, has become a focal point of the conversation.
In one clip, he confidently states that many &ldquo;boutique bags&rdquo; are made in their factory before being shipped to the brands to have their logos and final touches added. He walks viewers through piles of high-quality leather, hardware, and zippers allegedly identical to those used by global luxury labels. His message is clear: the only difference is the brand name.
He also argues that his workers&mdash;the same artisans who produce for internationally renowned brands&mdash;&ldquo;know how to make it real, make it good.&rdquo; In another video, he encourages viewers to stop overpaying for luxury and instead buy directly from Chinese manufacturers for a fraction of the price.
While his primary account has faced takedown attempts, @senbags has vowed to continue operations through backup profiles, promising, &ldquo;We will keep making good bags for as long as we can.&rdquo;
Behind the Cost: A $38,000 Bag That Costs $1,000 to Make?
Further fuelling public interest are videos disclosing the supposed production costs of luxury items. The Herm&egrave;s Birkin bag, which can retail for up to US$38,000 (approximately RM180,000), allegedly costs only around US$1,000 to manufacture. One TikTok video even breaks down the cost of raw materials, claiming they rarely exceed 10% of the retail price.
Other viral clips highlight similar revelations&mdash;such as leggings allegedly identical to Lululemon&rsquo;s being sold for US$5&ndash;6 directly from factories, compared to their usual retail price of around US$100. Sourcing agents and factories are also showcasing laundry products, skincare tools, and hair accessories made in China for luxury and beauty brands like Chanel, Dior, Shu Uemura, and even the Rosewood Hotel.
Another popular TikTok account, @lunasourcingchina, has toured facilities that claim to supply international household names with products like claw clips, brushes, and packaging.

The situation took a dangerous turn when the driver of the Toyota Yaris suddenly pulled out what appeared to be a black pistol and pointed it directly at the complainant. The weapon was allegedly used to threaten the victim during the argument, creating a highly distressing scene.
Fearing for his safety, the Honda driver lodged a police report at 12.55am the following morning. Police officers responded swiftly to the report and managed to apprehend two suspects, aged 19 and 27, later that day.

A ferry travelling from Ketapang Port in East Java to Gilimanuk Port in Bali sank late on Wednesday night (2 July 2025), just 25 minutes into its journey across the Bali Strait, one of Indonesia&rsquo;s busiest inter-island routes. He further highlighted AI&rsquo;s growing role in Sarawak&rsquo;s economy, particularly in agriculture, manufacturing, and the social sector, making it imperative that educators are equipped to keep up with changing demands across all industries.

One standout project was a visual aid device for the visually impaired, developed by a team of teachers with no prior coding experience. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s either scorching hot or you get drenched,&rdquo; he explains. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s exhausting, and you&rsquo;re risking your life on the road every single day.&rdquo;
His typical day may not involve office meetings or air-conditioned cubicles, but it demands more stamina and situational awareness than many white-collar jobs.
Despite the hardships, Afiq says mental discipline is the key. &ldquo;You are your own boss, but people forget that being a boss is hard. There&rsquo;s no one chasing you to work &mdash; so you have to be consistent and motivated.&rdquo;

While Afiq is proud of his achievements, he is realistic about the nature of platform work. &ldquo;There&rsquo;s no promotion, no HR department planning your career,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s not for everyone. You have to make it work for you.&rdquo;
He praises Grab for offering workshops and training to equip riders with skills, but maintains that success ultimately depends on personal discipline. &ldquo;The flexibility is great &mdash; but don&rsquo;t misuse it. Set goals. Stick to them. Show up every day.&rdquo;

New Medical Regulations Aim to Tackle Specialist Shortages

In response to these challenges, the Ministry of Health has moved forward with legislative reforms designed to bolster Malaysia&rsquo;s specialist workforce and ensure fairer access to advanced medical care.
Effective from 1 July, the Medical (Amendment) Regulations 2025 and the Medical Act (Amendment) 2024 have come into force. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad described the changes as a major step towards creating a more transparent, inclusive, and competency-based system for medical specialists.
Key features of the amendments include:

<li>Streamlining recognition and registration of specialists from both the Parallel Pathway and local postgraduate programmes.</li>
<li>Ensuring fair and competency-based evaluation processes.</li>
<li>Strengthening the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) to make it more representative and accountable.</li>
<li>Establishing clear service pathways for specialists to continue serving the public health system.</li>
<li>Expanding public access to high-quality specialist treatment nationwide.</li>
</ul>
Dr Dzulkefly added that the first wave of specialists under the Parallel Pathway would cover cardiothoracic surgery, plastic surgery, and family medicine, while genetic pathology would be included under the Master Programme route.
The reforms aim not only to fill existing gaps in specialist availability but also to provide long-term stability for Malaysia&rsquo;s healthcare system&mdash;by improving training pipelines, retaining local talent, and ensuring more equitable distribution of expertise across the country.
A Healthcare System at a Crossroads
The situation at Sungai Buloh Hospital is emblematic of wider structural issues within Malaysia&rsquo;s public healthcare sector&mdash;issues that cannot be solved overnight. With soaring demand and insufficient staff, both patients and healthcare workers continue to bear the brunt of the system&rsquo;s shortcomings.
While the newly introduced reforms mark a step in the right direction, experts argue that systemic change will require sustained political will, better funding, and more immediate support on the ground. That includes short-term staffing solutions, better working conditions for junior doctors, and more strategic resource allocation across facilities.
Until such changes take hold, many frontline doctors will continue to face burnout, and patients will continue to wait&mdash;hoping that a better balance between cost, quality, and care is not too far off on the horizon.
