The planned upgrading works on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line have been officially postponed, with Phases 2 and 3 now set to begin on 6 September 2025. Originally slated to start on 9 August, the rescheduling was announced by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, the operator of the Rapid KL network, to allow for further testing of the upgraded signalling system rolled out in Phase 1.

The upgrade is being carried out in three phases, though only Phases 2 and 3 will affect daily train operations. These phases cover high-traffic segments of the Kelana Jaya Line and will involve early morning closures at specific stations, which will only open at 9am instead of the usual 6am.
Phase 2 (KLCC to Gombak stretch):

<li>Dates: 6, 7, 14, 15, 21, 27, and 28 September; 11 and 12 October</li>
<li>Affected Stations: KLCC, Ampang Park, Damai, Dato' Keramat, Jelatek, Setiawangsa, Sri Rampai, Wangsa Maju, Taman Melati, Gombak</li>
</ul>
Phase 3 (Lembah Subang to Ampang Park stretch):
<ul>
<li>Dates: 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 29, and 30 November</li>
<li>Affected Stations: Lembah Subang, Kelana Jaya, Taman Bahagia, Taman Paramount, Asia Jaya, Taman Jaya, Universiti, Kerinchi, Abdullah Hukum, Bangsar, KL Sentral, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek, Dang Wangi, Kampung Baru, KLCC, Ampang Park</li>
</ul>
All other stations not included in the above lists will continue normal operations during this period.
Why the Delay Was Necessary

According to Prasarana, the delay between phases was implemented to assess the full functionality of the newly installed system from Phase 1. Unlike the next two phases, Phase 1 focused primarily on non-public areas such as the depot, and the work was completed during night-time maintenance hours, ensuring minimal disruption.
By taking additional time to test Phase 1 under real-world conditions, the operator hopes to prevent unexpected breakdowns and build public trust before rolling out more complex upgrades involving core segments of the operating route.
&ldquo;The additional testing is crucial to assess the system&rsquo;s performance under actual operating conditions and to minimise the risk of future service disruptions,&rdquo; Prasarana said in its statement. The operator further highlighted that the entire upgrade is aligned with its commitment to improving reliability and safety across the network.
Mitigation Measures: Shuttle Services and On-Ground Support

Recognising that late station openings may inconvenience thousands of morning commuters, Prasarana has announced several support measures to ease the transition during the affected periods.

<li>Station staff, auxiliary police, and Prasarana Troopers (trained volunteers) deployed on-site to assist and guide commuters.</li>
<li>Informational signage and printed travel guides at LRT stations and shuttle pick-up points.</li>
<li>Real-time updates via the MyRapid app and official website, so passengers can plan ahead.</li>
</ul>
Prasarana has also encouraged commuters to seek assistance from station personnel if uncertain, and reiterated its commitment to delivering reliable public transport.
&ldquo;We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused during this period and appreciate the patience and cooperation of all commuters,&rdquo; it added.
