Victim Clarifies: &ldquo;It Was Just a Prank&rdquo;

Miri police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed the family&rsquo;s position, stating that there were no elements of coercion or abuse. &ldquo;Police have summoned the institute&rsquo;s officer, the parents, as well as all the students aged between 18 and 24 to record their statements. The case has been classified as requiring no further action,&rdquo; he explained.
Even so, Farhan warned that the police would continue to monitor the matter closely and would take firm action if any new reports or evidence emerged showing elements of bullying or violence. A devastating road accident in Johor has claimed five lives, including four members of the same family, in what police believe may have been caused by reckless driving involving two brothers behind the wheel of luxury vehicles.
The tragedy, which occurred along Jalan Renggam&ndash;Simpang Renggam in Kluang on 1 June, has shocked Malaysians nationwide and reignited concerns about dangerous driving on public roads.
Five-Vehicle Collision Turns Fatal

According to Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh, initial investigations found that a 22-year-old man driving the BMW and his 19-year-old younger brother, who was driving the Mercedes-Benz A250, were allegedly travelling at high speed and driving recklessly.
Police believe the BMW lost control while travelling from Kluang towards Simpang Renggam, veered into the opposite lane and collided with four oncoming vehicles before plunging into a ravine.
The impact of the collision was catastrophic.
Family Of Four Killed At The Scene

All four were pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining severe head and body injuries.
Emergency responders who arrived at the location found several victims trapped inside the badly damaged vehicle. In one particularly horrifying detail, firefighters revealed that the elderly woman had been thrown out of the Toyota Vios and landed on top of another vehicle involved in the collision.
The 22-year-old BMW driver later died while being transported to hospital, bringing the total death toll to five.

The driver of the second Mercedes-Benz, a 57-year-old woman, sustained minor chest and facial injuries, while her two passengers escaped unharmed.
All injured victims were taken to Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang for treatment.
Teen Driver Arrested As Police Continue Investigation

Following the crash, police arrested the 19-year-old Mercedes-Benz driver to assist with investigations.

The teenager was later remanded for two days to facilitate investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers reckless and dangerous driving.
Authorities are also investigating the wider case under Section 41(1) of the same Act, relating to causing death through reckless or dangerous driving.
Dashcam footage that has since circulated online allegedly shows both luxury vehicles travelling at high speed moments before the fatal collision.
Final Goodbye To A Beloved Daughter

According to Nurul Ain, Airish hugged and kissed her several times before leaving and smiled as she said, "Goodbye Umi."
Those would become the last words she ever heard from her daughter.
The grieving mother also revealed that Airish had taken five of her shirts on the trip because they wore the same size. Tragically, the child was wearing one of those shirts when the accident occurred.
Nurul Ain shared that Airish had recently been excited about becoming an older sister after learning that her mother was five months pregnant.
"When she found out I was pregnant, she told me not to buy any baby clothes yet because she wanted to choose them herself," she said.
Family Had Already Suffered A Recent Loss
The tragedy has been made even more painful by the fact that Mohd Aiman's family had recently experienced another bereavement.
According to relatives, Mohd Aiman's father had passed away from intestinal cancer just two weeks earlier. Family members described the latest loss as almost impossible to comprehend, especially after having gathered together recently for a family celebration in Melaka before the fatal journey home.
Anthony Loke Condemns Reckless Driving

He confirmed that APAD has already opened an investigation paper while a special task force has been established to determine the root cause of the incident.
According to the minister, the findings will be submitted to the Cabinet as soon as possible before being released publicly.

Loke also issued a stern warning to Prasarana Malaysia, saying the company&rsquo;s management and board could no longer afford to operate with a &ldquo;business-as-usual&rdquo; mindset.
He stressed that safety and reliability standards within public transport systems cannot be compromised under any circumstances.
The minister added that severe disciplinary action &mdash; including dismissals &mdash; should be taken against any individuals found negligent in relation to the incident.
According to him, accountability must apply at every level of management in order to restore public confidence in Malaysia&rsquo;s rail system.
APAD Warns Of Enforcement Action If Negligence Is Found

Meanwhile, APAD confirmed that it has conducted multiple inspections at the derailment site together with officials from the Ministry of Transport.
The agency said investigations will focus on operational procedures, maintenance records, rail safety systems, and compliance with licence conditions.
Rapid KL has also been instructed to submit a full report regarding the incident.
Authorities warned that enforcement action could be taken under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 if investigations uncover negligence, non-compliance, or failures involving rail safety responsibilities.
The incident has once again reignited public frustration over the consistency and reliability of Malaysia&rsquo;s urban rail services, especially after several recent disruptions involving the LRT network.

The incident is believed to have taken place at the FamilyMart outlet located at The Core in Kota Damansara, Selangor.
The clip quickly gained traction online, with many Malaysians expressing shock and anger over the confrontation, particularly because the soup involved appeared to be hot.

A social media user claiming to be the delivery rider later shared his side of the incident online.
According to the rider, the confrontation allegedly began after he asked the employee about the status of his order. He claimed the staff member responded rudely before throwing the soup at him during the dispute.
The video itself does not fully reveal what happened before the altercation escalated, but many netizens criticised the employee&rsquo;s actions and raised concerns about the potential danger of throwing hot food at another person.
Some online users argued that regardless of the argument or misunderstanding that may have taken place, using hot soup in such a manner could potentially cause burns or injuries.
Others described the act as unacceptable workplace behaviour and called for the matter to be properly investigated.

In response to the growing backlash, FamilyMart Malaysia confirmed that the staff member involved has been suspended pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
The company said it is treating the matter seriously and has prioritised the investigation. In a statement, FamilyMart stressed that it does not tolerate rude, unsafe, or disrespectful behaviour towards anyone in its stores, including customers, delivery riders, or members of the public.
The company also stated that further action would be taken if necessary once investigations are completed.
At the same time, FamilyMart urged the public to remain patient while the company conducts a thorough review of the incident.

FamilyMart added that maintaining a safe and respectful environment at its outlets remains a priority.
The convenience store chain said disciplinary measures would be taken if any wrongdoing is confirmed following the investigation.

Wong Chen has revealed that his tenure as non-executive chairman of Malaysia Debt Ventures (MDV) will officially end on 31 May after the Ministry of Finance (MoF) abruptly terminated his appointment.
The Subang MP said he was only informed of the decision shortly before what became his final MDV board meeting, after the institution&rsquo;s management received a letter from the ministry dated 25 May.
According to Wong, the ministry did not address the letter to him directly and no explanation or phone call was provided regarding the decision.
He described the termination as a &ldquo;curious anomaly&rdquo;, especially after helping steer the government-linked financial institution back into profitability during his three-year tenure.
Removal Comes Days After MyKhas Portal Access Was Allegedly Blocked

The development also comes just days after Wong claimed that his parliamentary office had lost access to the MyKhas portal &mdash; a government-managed system used for constituency allocations and Projek Mesra Rakyat applications.

According to Wong, his staff contacted the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister&rsquo;s Department after discovering the issue and were allegedly told verbally that access had been blocked on orders from Putrajaya.
No written explanation was reportedly provided.
Wong later said he checked with other PKR MPs in Selangor and found that they still retained access to the same portal, leading him to believe that his office may have been uniquely affected.
The issue sparked wider debate over equal access to constituency development funds, especially after Wong recently appeared alongside former PKR leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad during the announcement involving Parti Bersama Malaysia.
Although Wong remains a PKR member, he has reportedly indicated that he may contest under Parti Bersama Malaysia in the next general election.
Wong Says He Initially Refused the Position

Wong also shared details about his time at MDV, saying he had initially been reluctant to accept the role in May 2023 due to his long-held belief that Members of Parliament should not serve in government-linked companies (GLCs).
However, he said he was instructed by the Prime Minister to take on the position and help &ldquo;clean up the mess&rdquo;.
At the time, MDV was reportedly in a troubled financial state. The institution recorded losses of RM18.6 million in 2022, which later widened to RM56.6 million by the end of 2023. Wong also claimed staff morale was low and attrition rates were high when he first joined the agency.
MDV, a government-owned development financial institution under the Ministry of Finance, provides financing facilities to technology and innovation companies.

According to Wong, one of his first priorities was strengthening governance within the organisation and reducing political interference. He claimed he deliberately stopped entertaining calls and WhatsApp messages from influential individuals seeking favours or special access.
Instead, he said he instructed anyone with requests to submit formal written letters, adding that such attempts eventually stopped after several months. Wong believes the stricter governance structure helped stabilise the institution financially.
After recording heavy losses in 2023, MDV returned to profitability in 2024 with a RM3.4 million profit. Wong also claimed the agency&rsquo;s profits more than doubled again in the 2025 financial year, although the official figures have yet to be publicly released.
Earlier this year, MDV also launched an Integrity Day initiative focused on anti-corruption measures, transparency, and stronger compliance policies.
Civil Society Group Calls for Equal Constituency Funding Access

The organisation called for a law guaranteeing fair and equal access to constituency development funds (CDF) regardless of political affiliation.
In a statement, the group argued that public funds should be administered independently through Parliament instead of being controlled by the Prime Minister&rsquo;s Office.
Projek SAMA stressed that withholding access to constituency funds would ultimately affect residents rather than just elected representatives, noting that taxpayers are entitled to equal treatment regardless of which party they voted for.
Wong Says He Has &ldquo;No Regrets&rdquo;
Despite the abrupt ending to his tenure, Wong said he has &ldquo;absolutely no regrets&rdquo; about his three years at MDV.
He described the experience as an honour and praised MDV staff for their resilience during the institution&rsquo;s recovery period.
According to him, MDV&rsquo;s turnaround demonstrated that government-linked companies and government-linked investment companies could recover successfully if proper governance structures and transparency measures were put in place.
