Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be heading back to cinemas with a new extended cut featuring previously unseen footage, including a deleted scene involving Rosario Dawson&rsquo;s Claire Temple.
According to reports from Deadline and other industry sources, Sony Pictures is working on a theatrical re-release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which would include additional footage that was not part of the film&rsquo;s original theatrical cut.
The re-release does not yet have an announced release date, but reports suggest Sony is looking to capitalise on the film&rsquo;s enormous box office performance and continued interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Among the most notable additions expected to feature is a scene involving Rosario Dawson&rsquo;s Claire Temple, the fan-favourite character who was introduced during Marvel&rsquo;s Netflix-era television shows.

Claire Temple is particularly recognisable to fans of Marvel&rsquo;s former Netflix shows, having appeared across Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders. The character is known as a nurse who often provides medical assistance to superheroes and vigilantes.
While promoting the film, Dawson revealed her disappointment over the scene being cut, while also expressing hope that she could play Claire again.
The reported re-release could finally give audiences the opportunity to see that footage.
However, Claire Temple may not be the only addition. Reports indicate that the extended cut will contain further previously unseen material, with sources teasing that there could be "more surprises" among the extra footage.
Exactly what those surprises are remains unknown.

Sony Has Tried The Extra-Footage Strategy Before

Sony could now be looking to replicate that strategy on a larger scale with Brand New Day, although the exact amount of new footage has not been confirmed.
The difference this time is the sheer scale of Brand New Day's box office success, as well as the film's position within the wider MCU.
With audiences already invested in Peter Parker's future, previously unseen scenes involving established Marvel characters could provide an additional reason for fans to return to the cinema.
Could The Re-Release Connect To Avengers: Doomsday?

Another new sequence featured Bruce Banner in a secure underground facility, where he is confronted by Victor von Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. Doom appears to take Banner from the facility, directly establishing a connection between the Hulk and the upcoming film.
The re-release also returned viewers to the TVA, with Mobius, Ouroboros and Casey responding to a growing number of incursions between different universes. The scenes suggest that the multiverse is heading towards a much larger crisis, potentially setting the stage for the events of Avengers: Doomsday.
Finally, audiences were given another glimpse of Doom, including footage depicting the creation of his iconic mask.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for observation, two days after the death of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
The 101-year-old former prime minister was admitted on Tuesday night (29 September), with his son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, saying his father&rsquo;s condition was stable and there was no immediate cause for concern. He said the decision was made to allow Dr Mahathir to be monitored following an emotionally difficult few days.
&ldquo;He was admitted to IJN for observation. The past two days have been quite stressful for Tun M. For now, he is okay and there is no cause for concern,&rdquo; Mokhzani was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Dr Mahathir&rsquo;s long-time aide, Sufi Yusoff, also said the former prime minister had been exhausted and had not been getting enough rest following his wife&rsquo;s passing. He said the combination of emotional strain, hot weather and a lack of sleep had been difficult for someone of Dr Mahathir&rsquo;s age.
Dr Mahathir had been at IJN with his wife throughout her treatment before she died on 28 September at the age of 100. She was later laid to rest at Pusara Negara in Putrajaya on the same day in a state funeral.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah&rsquo;s Contributions To Malaysia

Tun Dr Siti Hasmah was one of Malaysia&rsquo;s pioneering women doctors and spent much of her career serving in the country&rsquo;s public health system. She was particularly recognised for her contributions to maternal and child health, family planning, women&rsquo;s welfare and community health.
Beyond medicine, she was also involved in various social and charitable initiatives and served as president of the Welfare Association of the Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) during Dr Mahathir&rsquo;s time as prime minister. Her contributions to public healthcare and community welfare earned her recognition as one of the country&rsquo;s prominent female figures.
Dr Siti Hasmah and Dr Mahathir, who were both trained as doctors, married on 5 August 1956 and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary earlier this year. They had seven children.
Dr Mahathir Was With His Wife During Her Final Days

Dr Mahathir had remained by Dr Siti Hasmah&rsquo;s side while she received treatment at IJN before her death.
Their son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, previously said his mother had appeared to be in good spirits when he visited her the night before her death. However, she had also told him that she was prepared to leave the family and had placed her faith in God.
Her condition deteriorated the following morning after she suffered a heart attack. Mukhriz said he was informed by IJN at around 8am before rushing to the hospital, where medical specialists were performing CPR. She was later transferred to the coronary care unit.
The family is awaiting any official statement from IJN regarding the cause of her death.
Mahathir Said He Did Not Expect Her To Die So Soon

In a video shared on his social media accounts, he was heard telling the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, that he had not expected his wife to die so soon as she appeared to be well the night before.
Al-Sultan Abdullah, who visited Dr Mahathir to offer his condolences, encouraged the former prime minister to take care of himself following the loss.
Dr Siti Hasmah&rsquo;s death prompted an outpouring of condolences from Malaysians, as well as tributes from political leaders and members of royal families. She was accorded a State Funeral of a National Dignitary, with her remains taken to Pusara Negara following funeral prayers.
Mahathir&rsquo;s Health And Recent Hospitalisation

His latest admission to IJN, however, has been described by his family as being for observation, with Mokhzani stressing that there was currently no cause for concern.
For now, Dr Mahathir remains under observation at IJN as he recovers following the death of his wife of 70 years.

Only 39% of active Employees Provident Fund (EPF) members in Malaysia&rsquo;s formal sector are currently on track to meet the fund&rsquo;s Basic Savings benchmark by the age of 60, highlighting the challenge of ensuring Malaysians have enough money to support themselves throughout retirement.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the proportion of members meeting the age-based Basic Savings benchmark increased from 36% in June 2025 to 39% in June 2026.
While this represents progress, around six in 10 active formal-sector EPF members remain below the benchmark for their age.
The government is targeting for six in 10 EPF members to meet the Basic Savings benchmark by 2030 under the EPF&rsquo;s Retirement Income Adequacy (RIA) framework.
What Is The RM390,000 EPF Savings Target?

The RM390,000 figure is the EPF&rsquo;s full Basic Savings level under its three-tier Retirement Income Adequacy framework, which took effect in 2026.
The RIA framework is designed to give members a clearer guide to how much they may need for retirement. It consists of three savings levels:

<li>Basic Savings: RM390,000</li>
<li>Adequate Savings: RM650,000</li>
<li>Enhanced Savings: RM1.3 million</li>
</ul>
Basic Savings is intended to cover essential retirement needs, while Adequate Savings aims to support a reasonable standard of living. Enhanced Savings represents a higher level of financial security in retirement.
According to EPF, RM390,000 is designed to support an initial monthly withdrawal of around RM1,625 in the first year of retirement, with the framework projecting withdrawals over 20 years from age 60 to 80.
The RM390,000 Benchmark Is Being Phased In

Although RM390,000 is the full Basic Savings benchmark at age 60, members are not expected to reach the amount immediately.

Anwar said the latest figures showed progress, but warned that too many Malaysians remain at risk of running out of savings during retirement.
With retirement potentially lasting 20 to 25 years, the issue is not simply accumulating a large lump sum but ensuring those savings can provide a sustainable income throughout retirement.
Speaking at the EPF International Social Wellbeing Conference 2026, Anwar also highlighted the financial pressures facing households today.
He said retirement planning cannot be viewed purely as a matter of financial literacy when many households are already dealing with immediate expenses such as food, rent and education.
This means the ability to save for retirement is closely linked to having sufficient and stable income. Retirement security therefore also depends on wages, decent employment and the ability to contribute consistently.
Informal And Gig Workers Remain Part Of The Challenge

Another challenge is extending retirement savings coverage to Malaysians working outside conventional formal employment.
The growth of self-employment, gig work and other non-traditional forms of employment means some workers may not receive regular employer contributions to their EPF accounts.
The government has introduced initiatives to broaden coverage, including i-Saraan, which provides incentives for eligible self-employed and informal workers who contribute to EPF.
There is also i-Saraan Plus, which provides additional support for eligible e-hailing and p-hailing workers, while i-Suri has been expanded to support retirement savings among women involved in unpaid care work.
These programmes aim to encourage more Malaysians outside traditional employment to build retirement savings.
EPF Shifts Focus From Savings To Retirement Income

EPF chairman Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said retirement planning should not focus solely on how much money members have accumulated. Instead, members need to consider how their savings can provide a sustainable income throughout retirement.
This approach is reflected in the RIA framework, which connects savings levels with potential retirement income rather than treating EPF savings simply as a lump sum. EPF has also introduced measures to help members manage their savings over a longer retirement period.
One is i-Emas, which provides regular monthly payments under the existing Age 55/60 Withdrawal facility. As of June 2026, more than 25,000 members had opted for monthly withdrawals, including more than 7,000 aged 55 and more than 19,000 aged 60.
Another initiative, i-Legasi, allows eligible members with savings above the RM650,000 Adequate Savings level to transfer eligible excess savings to the EPF accounts of immediate family members.
Government Expands Support For Older Malaysians

Under Budget 2026, the government allocated RM1.26 billion for senior citizen welfare, with the funding expected to benefit around 180,000 older Malaysians through assistance and activity centres.
Anwar also highlighted the need for a more comprehensive care system for Malaysia&rsquo;s ageing population, covering community support, nutritious meals and home assistance, as well as day care, home nursing and residential care for older people who are frail or living with dementia.
He said access to essential care should be based on need rather than solely on an individual&rsquo;s ability to pay.
What The Latest EPF Figures Mean
The increase from 36% to 39% of active formal-sector EPF members meeting their age-based Basic Savings benchmark shows some improvement in retirement preparedness.
However, the figures also underline the scale of the challenge ahead.
The government aims to increase the proportion to 60% by 2030, while the full Basic Savings benchmark gradually reaches RM390,000 at age 60.
For EPF members, the RIA framework provides a clearer reference point for assessing whether their savings are keeping pace with their age and expected retirement needs.
Ultimately, retirement planning is not just about reaching a particular savings figure. It is also about ensuring Malaysians have sufficient income, savings and social support to sustain themselves through what could be decades of retirement.

Only 4 In 10 Malaysians On Track For RM390K EPF Savings By 60, Govt Targets 60% By 2030

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has confirmed that he has submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, but will remain in the Cabinet for the time being.
Loke said his resignation will take effect when former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak leaves prison to begin serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
The development comes after Loke announced on Sept 19 that he would resign as Transport Minister following the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Central Executive Committee&rsquo;s decision over Najib&rsquo;s conditional pardon.
Loke Hands Resignation Letter To Anwar

Loke confirmed on Sept 29 that he had personally handed his resignation letter to Anwar during a meeting the previous day.
According to Loke, Anwar asked him to continue carrying out his duties as Transport Minister for the time being. However, Loke said he told the Prime Minister that there should be a clear timeframe for his continued tenure.
That timeframe, he said, is tied to Najib&rsquo;s return home to begin house arrest.
&ldquo;When Datuk Seri Najib returns home, my resignation will take effect,&rdquo; Loke said after officiating Malaysia Maritime Week 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.
Loke added that he remains in office because Najib has not yet begun his house arrest and no replacement has been appointed for the Transport Ministry.
He also said he does not know exactly when Najib will be released from prison, meaning the timing of his departure from the Cabinet remains dependent on when the house arrest arrangement takes effect.
Why Is Anthony Loke Resigning?

Loke&rsquo;s decision to resign is linked to DAP&rsquo;s position on the conditional pardon granted to Najib.

Following a DAP Central Executive Committee meeting on Sept 19, Loke announced that he would resign as Transport Minister as the party&rsquo;s response to the decision.
Loke has stressed that the resignation is a party decision reflecting DAP&rsquo;s disagreement with the house arrest arrangement. He has also clarified that the resignation only applies to his position as a Cabinet minister, while other DAP ministers and deputy ministers will remain in the Unity Government.
Anwar Says He Will Discuss Loke&rsquo;s Resignation

Anwar has confirmed that he received Loke&rsquo;s resignation letter and said he would discuss the matter with the Transport Minister.
Speaking on Sept 29, Anwar said he saw no issue with Loke&rsquo;s performance as Transport Minister and described his work and performance in the role as very good.
The Prime Minister had previously said he did not want to rush into a decision regarding Loke&rsquo;s proposed resignation, saying he respected Loke&rsquo;s decision and wanted to give him space to explain his position.
For now, Loke will continue to perform his duties while the matter remains unresolved.
What Happens To The Transport Ministry?

With Loke still serving as Transport Minister, the ministry&rsquo;s existing programmes and plans will continue for the time being.
Loke has also said that there is currently no replacement for him, while decisions regarding his successor remain under the Prime Minister&rsquo;s discretion.
The Transport Ministry is continuing with its planned initiatives during this period. Among them is a proposed single-window system aimed at reducing the processing time for ship bunkering approvals from several months to several weeks.
The system is intended to consolidate applications currently handled by different agencies into a single process while retaining the respective agencies&rsquo; jurisdictions.
Loke said the initiative is expected to be implemented under the Transport Ministry, with the target of reducing approval times significantly from the current six to seven months.
Loke&rsquo;s Resignation Remains Tied To Najib&rsquo;s House Arrest
For now, Anthony Loke remains Malaysia&rsquo;s Transport Minister despite having formally submitted his resignation letter.

The latest ranking puts Malaysia ahead of several major European and Western passports, including those of the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Australia.
According to the Malaysian Immigration Department, the latest position reflects the strength and international acceptance of the Malaysian passport.
Malaysian Passport Gives Access To 175 Destinations

The biggest advantage highlighted by the 2026 Passport Index ranking is the number of destinations Malaysian passport holders can access with simplified visa arrangements.
Malaysian passport holders currently have access to 175 destinations, comprising 129 visa-free destinations and 46 destinations offering visas on arrival. A further 23 destinations require Malaysians to obtain a visa before travelling.
The visa-free destinations include popular travel spots across Asia and Europe, while visa-on-arrival access covers destinations in regions including South Asia, the Middle East and elsewhere.
However, travellers should still check the latest entry requirements before booking a trip, as visa policies can change and certain destinations may require additional travel authorisations or electronic permits.
Malaysia Moves Ahead Of The UK, US And Much Of Europe

Malaysia's rise is particularly notable when compared with several major travel destinations.
Spain ranks third in the 2026 Passport Index, while a group of European countries share the next position with mobility scores of 173. These include Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Austria, Norway and Ireland, alongside Japan.
The United Kingdom has a score of 170, while Canada and New Zealand each record 169. Australia scores 168 and the United States 167.
This means Malaysian passport holders currently have access to more destinations through the Passport Index's mobility measure than citizens of several major Western economies.
How Does The Passport Index Measure Passport Strength?

The Passport Index Global Passport Power Rank measures passports according to their Mobility Score, which reflects the number of destinations accessible through visa-free travel, visa-on-arrival arrangements and other recognised travel-access arrangements.
The index is published by <a href="https://www.passportindex.org/">Arton Capital</a> and is updated as international visa and travel arrangements change.
This methodology is different from other major passport rankings, such as the Henley Passport Index. As a result, a country's position can vary between different passport indexes depending on the destinations covered and how different forms of travel authorisation are classified.
For the 2026 Passport Index, the UAE leads with a mobility score of 182, followed by Singapore and Malaysia at 175, and Spain at 174.
Malaysia's Passport Has Also Received Security Upgrades

The rise in Malaysia's passport ranking comes as the country has introduced a new generation of Malaysian international passports with enhanced security features.
The Malaysian Immigration Department's current passport information confirms that Malaysian passports are available with five- or 10-year validity, depending on the applicant's eligibility. For Malaysian citizens aged 18 to 59, the 10-year passport costs RM350, while the five-year option costs RM200.
The newer passport design incorporates a range of security and anti-counterfeiting measures, while the passport's pages also feature Malaysian buildings and landmarks as part of its visual design.
Malaysia has also been using biometric and electronic passport technology for years. The Immigration Department states that its ICAO-compliant e-passport system incorporates features designed to strengthen document security, improve verification and facilitate international travel.
What Does The Ranking Mean For Malaysian Travellers?
For Malaysians, a stronger passport can make international travel more straightforward by reducing the number of destinations where travellers need to apply for a visa before departure.
With 129 visa-free destinations and another 46 offering visas on arrival, Malaysian passport holders have access to a broad range of destinations across Asia, Europe and other regions without having to complete a traditional visa application ahead of every trip.
It is also worth noting that visa-free does not necessarily mean entry is guaranteed. Immigration authorities can still impose requirements such as proof of accommodation, return tickets, sufficient funds, travel insurance or other documentation. Some destinations may also require an electronic travel authorisation before departure.
Nevertheless, Malaysia's move from third place in 2025 to a shared second place in the 2026 Passport Index marks a significant increase in its global passport mobility.

Apple is reportedly still working on a successor to its Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, despite years of uncertainty surrounding the product and a growing shift towards lighter smart glasses.
According to Bloomberg&rsquo;s Mark Gurman, Apple is developing a new project codenamed N224, which could eventually become the next-generation Vision Pro. The project is still in the early stages, with Apple reportedly exploring as many as four different designs as it considers how to make the headset lighter, more practical and potentially more affordable.
However, the future of the project remains uncertain. Gurman reports that the development is currently on &ldquo;life support&rdquo;, with disagreements within Apple over the direction of the device. If the project survives, a new Vision Pro is not expected before late 2028 or early 2029.
Apple Is Still Trying To Solve The Vision Pro&rsquo;s Biggest Problem

When Apple launched the Vision Pro in 2024, the headset attracted significant attention for its high-resolution displays, eye and hand tracking, spatial audio and visionOS platform.

The original Vision Pro launched in the US at US$3,499, while the headset can weigh around 600g to 800g depending on its configuration and headband. Combined with the external battery, the overall system is considerably heavier and less convenient than conventional VR headsets and smart glasses.
Apple has reportedly explored several ways to address these problems since the Vision Pro launched.
One previous project, known as N100 or Vision Air, was intended to produce a lighter and potentially more affordable headset. That project was reportedly shelved as Apple shifted some of its attention towards smart glasses.
The newly reported N224 project appears to have a different objective. Rather than simply creating a cheaper version of the Vision Pro, Apple could be looking at a full successor that retains a flagship-level experience while potentially reducing both its weight and price.
Apple Is Exploring Four Different Vision Pro Designs

Another concept would move some of the headset's heavier components into a separate external puck.
This approach would relocate the computing hardware and battery away from the user's head, potentially making the headset significantly lighter. The current Vision Pro already uses an external battery, meaning Apple has experience with separating power from the headset itself.
However, the external puck design reportedly faces resistance from some Apple executives, who believe an all-in-one headset would provide a better overall user experience.
This disagreement appears to be one of the reasons why the future of N224 remains uncertain.
Apple&rsquo;s Vision Pro Future Could Depend On Comfort

These glasses could arrive before any new Vision Pro, with reports suggesting a possible launch by the end of 2027.
Meta Is Showing Apple What A Lighter VR Device Could Look Like

The approach allows the glasses themselves to remain significantly lighter while still providing advanced computing capabilities. The device is expected to launch in spring 2027 at a reported starting price of US$1,299.
The design has also drawn comparisons with Apple's reported N224 concept, as both approaches move some of the heavier components away from the user's face.
For Apple, Meta's development could provide an example of how a lighter headset might make extended use more practical. However, Apple still appears to favour an integrated design, meaning it may not necessarily follow Meta's approach.
Other Vision Pro And VR Competitors To Watch

Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses take a different approach by focusing on cameras, audio and AI features rather than immersive displays. The partnership between Meta, Ray-Ban and EssilorLuxottica has helped demonstrate the potential of making smart glasses more suitable for everyday use.
Samsung's XR platform is another competitor to watch, with the company developing its own extended-reality hardware and software ecosystem in partnership with Google and Qualcomm.
Meanwhile, Sony's PlayStation VR2 continues to target gaming, offering a more focused virtual-reality experience built around the PlayStation 5.
For Apple, however, the biggest challenge may not simply be competing with other VR headsets. It could be deciding what the Vision Pro should become in the first place &mdash; a powerful premium spatial-computing device, a lighter mainstream headset, or eventually a pair of everyday smart glasses.
For now, the next-generation Vision Pro remains far from certain. If Apple's N224 project moves forward, consumers may have to wait until 2028 or 2029 to see whether Apple can deliver a headset that addresses the weight and price concerns that have followed the Vision Pro since its launch.

BTS made history at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), sweeping all three categories in which they were nominated and adding several new records to their growing list of achievements.
The K-pop group won Song of the Year for &ldquo;SWIM&rdquo;, as well as Best K-Pop and Best Group at the ceremony held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on 27 September.
The wins mark another major milestone for BTS following the group&rsquo;s return to full-group activities earlier this year after a lengthy hiatus while the seven members completed their mandatory military service.
Despite their three victories, BTS did not attend the ceremony in person, with all three of their awards announced outside the live televised portion of the show.
BTS Wins Song Of The Year With &ldquo;SWIM&rdquo;

BTS Extends Best Group Record

BTS also picked up Best Group, extending a record they had already established at the VMAs.
The group previously won the fan-voted award four consecutive times from 2019 to 2022. Their latest victory brings their total to five Best Group wins, making BTS the most-awarded act in the category. The award comes during an important year for the group, which resumed full-group activities in March following the members&rsquo; military service.
In a statement released through their agency, BIGHIT MUSIC, BTS thanked their fans, known as ARMY, for their continued support.
The group described ARIRANG as a &ldquo;new beginning&rdquo; and said the Song of the Year victory for &ldquo;SWIM&rdquo; was particularly meaningful because of the people who had supported and loved their music.
The members also said they would continue to deliver new music and performances together.
Fourth Best K-Pop Win Gives BTS Another Record

Before this year&rsquo;s ceremony, BTS and BLACKPINK&rsquo;s Lisa were tied with three Best K-Pop wins each. BTS&rsquo; latest victory therefore gives the group sole possession of the Best K-Pop record at the VMAs with four wins.
The group previously won the category in 2019, 2020 and 2021, adding another record to a VMA history that dates back to their first nomination in 2019.
BTS&rsquo; Historic Wins Were Not Part Of The Live Telecast

Despite winning three major awards, BTS&rsquo; victories were not shown during the main live broadcast of the 2026 VMAs.
