If you&rsquo;re one to always spend their time on social media, especially on YouTube, I&rsquo;m sure you&rsquo;ve heard of Night Owl Cinematics (NOC).

They are a production house based in Singapore who regularly make a variety of content from travel, lifestyle and even their famous series &ldquo;Food King&rdquo;. It was founded by Ryan Tan and Sylvia Chan and they currently have 990K subscribers on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/Alozerk">YouTube</a>.
Quite recently, they have been under fire and trending all over social media due to Sylvia&rsquo;s old conversations being leaked out on the internet and she was allegedly verbally abusing and bullying her employees.
In a statement she released, she had apologised and said she &ldquo;did not live up to the standards expected of (her) and was removed from NOC&rsquo;s line-up of artistes.

Recently, an article was published which contained accounts from unidentified NOC staff who had voiced out about Sylvia&rsquo;s alleged mistreatment. Despite warnings to seek the company consent before speaking to external parties, the group had broke the silence as they wanted &ldquo;NOC to be safer for all employees&rdquo;. They also would want &ldquo;an individual&rdquo; to take responsibility for her actions.
More allegations had surfaced against Sylvia shortly after and this time it was in a more serious nature. A blog named #EndTheSilence had surfaced, and those allegations were Sylvia misusing company funds, sexual favours and infidelity.

One of the paragraphs written from the blog wrote: "We have exhausted all means of trying to get our voices heard in NOC by talking to key members of the management team as appointed by Sylvia &mdash; such as Sylvia herself, the accountant, her lawyers, and more but to no avail."&nbsp;
Many other social media platforms picked up on the action
Various discussions of the issue can be seen on Instagram,TikTok and even Twitter. A discussion thread on <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/singapore/comments/qbd150/noc_saga_sylvia_vs_ryan/">Reddit</a> even got popular as it had received over 2.7K upvotes.
It was a 9 minute and 46 second YouTube video which contained a zoom meeting that had taken place between Sylvia and Ryan. In the video, Ryan had also called her out.

Ryan sounded agitated during the meeting and held Sylvia accountable for her &ldquo;management style&rdquo; and the lack of employee welfare. Sylvia on the other hand appears disengaged and responded to his statements with a smirk.
Background of the NOC drama
The drama had initially started since 1 October as an anonymous Instagram account known as sgcickenrice had leaked out audio clips and screenshots showing Sylvia bullying and mistreating employees.
NOC later released a statement to address the situation.

Subsequently, the anonymous account had received a cease-and-desist letter to remove the post about Sylvia and NOC.

They had fought back by engaging their own legal service by sending the media company a lawyer&rsquo;s letter which indicated NOC has not &ldquo;alleged that [the accusations] are untrue&rdquo;.
The internet had enough of her
As some of you who don&rsquo;t know, Sylvia was previously a Malaysian who gotten a Singaporean citizenship. And well, looks like Singaporeans can&rsquo;t agree more to ask us to take her back.

For those who&rsquo;ve been following them for a while, I&rsquo;m sure you know that both Ryan and Sylvia had a divorce. It was probably one of the saddest moments of 2020 but now that you think of it, it was good that they are now separated. I can&rsquo;t imagine needing to work with someone with this kind of attitude.

The demolition of a controversial four-storey building in Hulu Langat, believed to have been occupied by foreign residents including members of the Rohingya community, has been approved but is still awaiting funding from the Selangor state government.
Hulu Langat Member of Parliament Mohd Sany Hamzan said the operation, estimated to cost around RM600,000, cannot proceed immediately as several legal and administrative procedures must first be completed.
According to him, the Land Office has already submitted the necessary paperwork to the state government, and demolition works will only commence once the allocation is approved.
He added that the case has been raised repeatedly at district, state and federal levels, including discussions with the Inspector-General of Police and the National Security Council (NSC).
The MP also emphasised that enforcement agencies such as the Immigration Department have conducted multiple operations in the area over the years, although overcrowding in detention centres remains a major challenge, costing the government approximately RM90 per detainee per day.
Legal Procedures and Complex Constraints

Sany stressed that the issue is far more complex than it appears publicly, stating that demolition cannot be carried out simply upon discovery.

He also clarified that only a small number of families remain in the vicinity, according to local authorities, and said that some of the viral footage circulating online is outdated.
At the same time, he urged the public to verify information with official sources, noting that several government bodies, including the Kajang Municipal Council and Land Office, have already issued statements on the matter.
Sany also highlighted the humanitarian aspect of the Rohingya issue, stating that unlike migrants from some other countries, repatriation for Rohingya individuals is far more complex.
&ldquo;If we arrest them, detain them and send them back, the outcome is death. That is the reality,&rdquo; he said, adding that the issue carries international implications and must be handled carefully.
He further called for cooperation from local communities and village leaders in reporting suspicious activities, while stressing that the matter requires a long-term, coordinated solution rather than piecemeal action by individual constituencies.
Criminologist: Legal Gaps and Coordination Issues Fuel Confusion

He explained that enforcement bodies are bound by existing laws and cannot act beyond what is explicitly permitted.
&ldquo;Many people are quick to level accusations without objectively examining the legal basis that governs any action authorities intend to take,&rdquo; he said.
According to him, overlapping responsibilities between different agencies often result in delays or assumptions that another department has already acted, creating confusion and inefficiencies.
He stressed that stronger inter-agency coordination is essential to prevent misinformation and public misunderstanding.
&ldquo;There are circumstances that require legislative reform, especially where jurisdiction between courts and administrative officers overlaps,&rdquo; he added.
Kamal also suggested that certain enforcement powers could be streamlined, proposing that local authorities such as mayors or district council presidents be given clearer authority to order demolitions directly, in order to speed up action against illegal structures.
However, he cautioned that transparency is equally important, noting that a lack of communication allows speculation and mistrust to grow.
&ldquo;Not every delay stems from incompetence or corruption. Sometimes the law itself limits what can be done,&rdquo; he said.
He also questioned why the matter had not been more prominently addressed earlier in Parliament by local representatives, suggesting that clearer explanations could have prevented public misconceptions.
State Government and Authorities Step In

He reiterated that demolition works will be carried out in accordance with the law once all procedures are completed.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government has clarified that the structure is not under strata management and therefore falls outside its jurisdiction, leaving responsibility to the state government.

Records show that enforcement actions have been ongoing for years, including multiple notices issued under Section 425 of the National Land Code in 2017, 2020, 2021 and most recently in March 2025.
A major integrated operation was also conducted in 2017 involving several agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), and the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS).
Further enforcement actions have included compounds issued by MPKj between 2016 and 2021, as well as investigations under the LUAS Enactment 1999.
In addition, immigration operations have resulted in the detention of foreign nationals suspected of offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
A Long-Standing Issue Still Awaiting Resolution
While demolition of the Hulu Langat structure is now confirmed in principle, the case highlights the complexity of balancing legal enforcement, inter-agency coordination, humanitarian considerations and public perception.
Authorities maintain that action is ongoing, but final execution remains dependent on funding approval and completion of procedural requirements.
The issue continues to draw attention as both a legal and social challenge, reflecting broader questions about enforcement powers, governance coordination and long-term policy solutions for informal settlements involving foreign communities in Malaysia.

Although the robots stole much of the spotlight, Wu Yufei is an accomplished performer in his own right.
Originally from Sichuan, China, he studied broadcasting and hosting before establishing himself as one of the country&rsquo;s top street dancers. He previously competed in Street Dance of China 2 and won the 2018 World Elite Dance Finals championship.
Wu specialises in bone-breaking dance, a style that relies on extraordinary flexibility and contortion-like movements to create the illusion that joints are bending beyond normal limits. His distinctive style paired perfectly with the robots&rsquo; mechanical precision, creating a performance unlike anything typically seen on talent shows.
Global Attention For Unitree Robotics

For many American viewers, it was also their first close-up introduction to advanced Chinese humanoid robotics outside of technology exhibitions or news reports.
The television appearance comes at an important time for Unitree, which is preparing for a listing on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and aims to raise 4.2 billion yuan (approximately RM2.52 billion) to support research, product development and manufacturing expansion.
The company&rsquo;s international growth has also been impressive. More than 40 per cent of its revenue now comes from overseas markets, while reports indicate it recorded a 335 per cent year-on-year increase in revenue, highlighting growing global demand for its products.
Politics And Robotics Collide

Another proposal, known as the American Security Robotics Act, would prevent US federal agencies from purchasing or operating humanoid robots manufactured by Chinese companies.
Supporters argue that advanced robotics could present security risks, while industry experts warn that such measures could politicise a rapidly evolving commercial sector and hinder innovation.
Some analysts believe restrictions may also fragment the global robotics industry, making collaboration and technological progress more difficult while increasing costs for businesses and consumers.

Malaysians who are used to paying their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions over the counter will soon have to make the switch to digital alternatives.
Starting 1 July 2026, the EPF will officially close all contribution payment, or remittance, counters at its offices across the country as part of its ongoing efforts to modernise its services and encourage greater adoption of online platforms.
However, the agency has stressed that the closure only affects payment counters, with all other customer service counters continuing to operate as normal.
A Move Towards Digital Convenience

According to EPF, members and employers will still have plenty of options to make their contribution payments without needing to visit a physical payment counter.

Despite the closure of payment counters, EPF has assured members that their ability to make contributions will not be affected.

Anyone visiting an EPF branch for enquiries, account-related matters or other services will still be able to do so, as only the remittance counters are being discontinued.

The move reflects a broader shift towards data-driven enforcement, with authorities expected to utilise digital tools and artificial intelligence to track suspicious activity, monitor money flows and identify business networks that may be operating through proxy arrangements.

Experts also caution that prolonged abuse of immigration rules could contribute to an expanding informal economy while weakening regulatory oversight and economic sovereignty.
At the same time, observers emphasise that enforcement should distinguish between illegal operators and legitimate foreign investors, many of whom continue to play an important role in Malaysia&rsquo;s economic development through investment, innovation and job creation.
