We are 9 days away from Malaysia reopening their international borders and I&rsquo;m sure many Malaysians are excited to travel again!

This isn&rsquo;t just good news to Malaysians who want to travel but also to airline companies as they can finally operate more flights just like the pre-pandemic times. AirAsia recently said that they are optimistic that they will return to 100% or more pre-Covid domestic and international flights by the end of 2022.

As the pandemic restrictions have been easing up, the flight frequencies in Malaysia have been increasing with the introduction of a travel bubble and allowing inter-state travel. Aside from domestic travel, some international travel has resumed as several routes to countries such as Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore and Vietnam as borders reopen.
At the moment, AirAsia has 75 aircraft in their fleet which includes 72 Airbus A320, two A321 and one A330. The airlines will be resuming more flights within Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia and will soon introduce additional service to destinations such as Bali, Bangkok, Ho Chi Min City, Manila, Phuket and more in April.
New routes introduced within Malaysia
Back in the past, going from state to state could serve as an issue as most travellers needed find alternative flights to their destination which could be costly.
But with the domestic scene now recovering, routes such as Kuching to Langkawi, Johor Bahru to Bintulu, Penang to Sibu and Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Terengganu have been introduced. AirAsia aims to increase their flight capacity to 1,124 flights per week by the end of April which would be close to the 1,163 flights per week during pre-Covid times.

As a celebration of the opening of international borders, AirAsia is currently offering flight bookings to popular destinations from RM39 for a one-way ticket.
The destinations are:

If safety is a concern, AirAsia has got it covered as they implemented several contactless measures such as self-check-in and the reintroduction of FACES which is a facial recognition technology that identifies your face as your boarding pass.

Physical check in counters is slowly phasing out as the airlines encourages travellers to check-in via the app and to receive a digital e-boarding pass as well as utilizing the self-baggage drop.

The best part of making everything digital is that passengers can check-in online up to 14 days before their departure. Worry not though, airports in Malaysia still offer the option for guest to check in at physical counters.
Finally, we can travel again. But before travelling, make sure you check your destinations requirements to enter such as vaccination status, PCR tests and any other additional documents needed.
