Malaysia's top men's doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, successfully defended their bronze medal from Tokyo by clinching another bronze at the 2024 Olympic Games, securing the country's first medal of this edition.
The national team triumphed over Denmark's world number two doubles team, Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, with scores of 16-21, 22-20, 21-19 in the bronze medal match at Porte de La Chapelle Arena.
This victory marked Aaron and Wooi Yik's eighth win over the Danish duo in twelve encounters.

In the first set, the Danish pair led 11-8 and despite a strong effort by the Malaysians, Astrup-Rasmussen secured the set 21-16 in 21 minutes. The second set had later come to life with a thrilling back-and-forth battle, with the Malaysian pair leading 11-9 at the interval. Though the Danish duo managed to equalize at 13-13 and later took an 18-15 lead, Aaron and Wooi Yik made a remarkable comeback to win the set 22-20.
The final set was intense, with Malaysia taking the lead for quite a bit. However, the Danish pair levelled the score at 19-19 after finding a couple of gaps between Aaron-Wooi Yik&rsquo;s defence. But despite the small hiccups, Aaron and Wooi Yik maintained their composure to clinch the bronze with a 21-19 victory.

Had No Thoughts Of Losing The Match

During the post-match interview with BWF, Wooi Yik said; &ldquo;I never thought about losing. When the score was 20-16, I told Aaron that we gotta fight and not make any mistakes. We told each other never to give up. When we got to 2020, we believe that a miracle can happen. That was also when we started to believe we could win the second game.&rdquo;
Meanwhile, Aaron shared that their bronze medal match is considered one of the duo's greatest comeback in a major tournament but he also didn&rsquo;t want to gloat too much about the win.
&ldquo;For me, there&rsquo;s not much to celebrate as this is only bronze, we came to Paris to win gold. But at least we could get a medal for Malaysia and I&rsquo;m proud of this achievement,&rdquo; said Aaron.
He also shared that in the past three years, he and Wooi Yik had grown and learnt a lot after having gone through a lot as well as becoming world champions. But he also said that there are two sides to the coin where one showed that they did not improve and won bronze again but on the other, the duo had shown consistency and contributed the same Olympic medal for Malaysia.

Both pairs had earlier missed out on the final, with Aaron and Wooi Yik losing to the world number one pair, Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang, and Astrup-Rasmussen falling to Taiwan&rsquo;s defending champions, Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin.
For the record, Aaron and Wooi Yik previously won the bronze at Tokyo 2020 by defeating Indonesia's seasoned pair, Mohamad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan, with scores of 17-21, 21-17, 21-14.
Congratulations to both Aaron and Wooi Yik! It was such an exhilarating match to watch and now it&rsquo;s time for us to turn our attention to Lee Zii Jia who will be fighting for bronze in the men&rsquo;s doubles tonight at 8:30pm local time against world #22 Lakshya Sen from India.
