If you live in the Klang Valley and have been eagerly waiting for the LRT3 Shah Alam Line to open, the wait is finally coming to an end.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed that the long-awaited Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3), also known as the Shah Alam Line, will officially begin operations on 29 June 2026, marking a major milestone for public transportation in the western corridor of the Klang Valley.
The announcement brings relief to commuters after years of construction, revisions and delays that pushed the project beyond its original completion timeline.
Official Launch To Take Place On 28 June

According to Loke, the official launch ceremony for the new rail line will be held on Sunday, 28 June, and will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The ceremony is expected to take place at the LRT3 main depot before the line opens to the public the following day.
&ldquo;The opening ceremony will be held on Sunday and operations will commence the next day,&rdquo; Loke said during a press conference after officiating the opening of the new Road Transport Department (JPJ) Bandar Tasik Selatan branch office.
The launch marks the completion of one of the Klang Valley&rsquo;s most significant rail infrastructure projects in recent years.
Connecting Bandar Utama To Johan Setia

The Shah Alam Line stretches approximately 37.8 kilometres from Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya to Johan Setia in Klang.
Designed to improve public transport accessibility across the western side of the Klang Valley, the route passes through several densely populated and rapidly developing areas, including Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.
In total, the line features 20 stations and is expected to benefit hundreds of thousands of daily commuters while serving an estimated two million residents living along the corridor.
Among the key stations on the route are Bandar Utama, Glenmarie, Stadium Shah Alam, UiTM Shah Alam, Bandar Baru Klang, Pasar Klang, Bandar Bukit Tinggi and Johan Setia.
The line is also expected to strengthen integration with existing public transportation networks, offering connections to other rail services including the Kelana Jaya Line, Kajang Line and KTM Komuter services.
Years Of Waiting Finally Come To An End

The LRT3 project has experienced a lengthy and challenging journey before reaching completion.
Construction first began several years ago as part of efforts to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in one of Malaysia&rsquo;s busiest urban regions. However, the project underwent multiple revisions, including cost rationalisation exercises and adjustments to its scope.
While authorities initially hoped to begin operations in 2025, the opening was eventually postponed after the line was unable to complete its mandatory Fault-Free Run (FFR) testing requirements.
Additional issues involving system and software stability identified during the testing and commissioning phase also contributed to the delay.
With those hurdles now resolved, the line is finally ready to begin carrying passengers.
Modern Trains And Park &amp; Ride Facilities

The Shah Alam Line will operate using modern three-car trainsets manufactured by CRRC Zhuzhou.
Each train can accommodate up to 624 passengers, helping to support high commuter volumes during peak travel periods.
To encourage greater use of public transport, several stations along the route have also been equipped with Park &amp; Ride facilities.
Stations offering these facilities include:

<li>Damansara Idaman</li>
<li>Pasar Klang</li>
<li>Bandar Bukit Tinggi</li>
<li>Seri Andalas</li>
<li>Johan Setia</li>
</ul>
Together, these locations provide parking space for approximately 2,300 vehicles, allowing commuters to conveniently switch from driving to rail travel.
A Boost For Public Transport In The Klang Valley

The opening of the LRT3 Shah Alam Line is expected to significantly improve mobility across the Klang Valley's western corridor.
For many residents travelling between Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang, the new line offers an alternative to long hours spent in traffic congestion while providing easier access to residential, commercial, educational and industrial hubs.
Beyond reducing travel times, the project is also expected to support broader efforts to increase public transport usage and strengthen connectivity between existing rail networks.
After years of anticipation, delays and testing, the countdown is finally over. From 29 June onwards, commuters will be able to hop aboard the LRT3 Shah Alam Line and experience one of the Klang Valley's newest rail services for themselves.
